The commonly used boards in whole house customization include six types: particle board, multi-layer board, ecological board, density board, European pine board, and solid wood finger joint board. So, which of the six commonly used boards in whole house customization is better?

cabinet

Plywood

Nickname: Plywood/Multi layer solid wood board/Plywood/Nine centimeter board, single layer or multi layer wood segment veneer or thin wood is glued with adhesive and then pressed. This type of board is similar to ecological boards and is also commonly used for cabinets. Some people will choose multi-layer boards as cabinets! The multi-layer board looks a bit like a wafer cracker! Both moisture-proof and load-bearing properties are very good, but controlling formaldehyde content is much more difficult than particle board! Try to choose high-quality brand products!

Advantages: Good moisture resistance and strong nail grip.

Disadvantage: Generally environmentally friendly.

MDF

Density board, also known as medium fiber board, is a board made of wood fibers. It is made by grinding plant fibers into powder, adding synthetic resin, and then hot pressing. The higher the density, the better the quality. It has slightly lower strength and poor moisture resistance, making it easy to absorb water and expand

Only density boards or logs can be used for doors with shapes! Less used for cabinet bodies, more used for making stylish cabinet doors. If your home style is American or European, the cabinet doors will use density board

Advantages: Smooth and delicate surface, strong styling.

Disadvantages: Poor moisture resistance, environmental friendliness, poor nail grip, not suitable for use in kitchens and bathrooms, nor suitable for making cabinets.

Particle board

Nickname: particleboard/solid wood particle board is made by pressing wood into pieces with adhesive and additives at a certain temperature. Cabinet body and door for making cabinets! This type of board is currently the most commonly used on the market, with relatively balanced performance and high cost-effectiveness!

Nowadays, many people who decorate may feel that particle boards are not environmentally friendly, but it's not entirely true. Whether they are environmentally friendly or not depends on the amount of glue in the production process. Particle boards with good craftsmanship also have a relatively high level of environmental protection, and can even reach the top from door to door without being easily deformed

Advantages: Good environmental friendliness, easy processing and forming, widely used.

Disadvantages: Poor moisture resistance and poor grip on nails.

Particle board

OSB BOARD

Nickname: OSB board/oriented particle board/Oson board. The internal structure of Oson board is similar to that of particle board, but the substrate volume is larger, forming flakes. It is formed by directional paving and hot pressing of wood shavings. The material is uniform, with strong nail grip, excellent flatness, high strength, good load-bearing and waterproof properties, but the price is also high.

Due to the different types of wood used as the base material, the transverse section of the European pine board may be slightly whiter, giving it a pine wood flavor. It is used to make cabinet bodies and modern air cabinet doors

Advantages: Good moisture resistance, strong strength and nail grip, and good environmental friendliness.

Disadvantage: The surface is not smooth enough, which affects the finishing ability

OSB

Wedge Joint Board

Nickname: Splice board/Solid wood Splice board/Solid wood Integrated board, refers to the type of solid wood that is actually spliced with wooden strips. The name finger joint board is because of the shape of the joint, which looks like fingers crossing.

It is often used for woodworking and cabinet making, as there is no finish and later painting or retaining the color of the wood inside the cabinet is required.

Advantages: With good environmental friendliness, the physical properties are better than those of solid wood boards.

Disadvantage: The stitching pattern is not aesthetically pleasing enough

Ecological board

Ecological board, also known as large core board, blockboard, Malacca board, and paintless board, are all made of it by bonding wooden blocks or strips. The side is the cross section of the wood, and the surface of the board is not painted, but coated with a layer of melamine decorative paper. Commonly used for making cabinet bodies and doors.

Due to its physical properties, the ecological board may deform if the cabinet door is made too high for a long time. So you can see that when using ecological boards to make cabinet doors, they are usually divided into two sections, with upper and lower parts made between 1.8 to 2 meters, and the nail grip force is also worse than that of particle boards.

Advantages: Good environmental protection, waterproof and moisture-proof, and high-temperature resistance.

Disadvantages: uneven stress and poor nail grip
